About Leys Plantation
Walkers will appreciate the quiet. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after an hour or so, unless they're the type who enjoy spotting birds and identifying trees. The forest floor can be muddy, so proper boots are worth bringing even in dry spells. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared - this is very much a self-led experience.
It works brilliantly as a morning walk if you're staying at Bugthorpe Grange Glamping just down the road, or as a break from the busier attractions around York. The proximity to Fox Hill Holiday Park and Yapham Holds means you could easily slip away for a couple of hours without losing much precious holiday time. Spring's decent here when the woodland floor comes alive, though autumn offers better light between the trees for photography. Admission appears free, but check locally before you head out - things change.
