Langer Hill

Langer Hill isn't the sort of peak that stops you dead in your tracks, but it's a solid walk from Skipton with decent views across the Dales if you pick a clear day. The climb is straightforward enough - nothing technical, just steady uphill work through farmland and moorland. You're looking at maybe an hour up, half that down if you've got reasonable legs.

What you get is a proper vantage point over Wharfedale and the surrounding valleys. On a good day, you can see a fair way out. The moorland up top has that wild, open feeling that makes the walk worthwhile, even if the peak itself is a bit unremarkable - no shelter, no stone cairn, just a high spot where you know you've earned a breather.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a casual stroll, but it's not a full expedition either. Families with younger kids might find it bit of a slog depending on their stamina. There's no admission charge because it's moorland access - just park sensibly near Skipton and get going.

If you're based at Draughton Heights Campsite or Deerstone Glamping nearby, this works well as a half-day outing. Pair it with Bolton Abbey Estate's facilities if you want a longer stay with more structured activities. The walk itself takes two to three hours door-to-door, so it won't eat your whole day. Go early if the weather's uncertain - moorland can close in quickly.
