Landseer Park

Just outside Ipswich, Landseer Park is a proper nature reserve that rewards a quiet morning walk far more than it might first suggest. You won't find manicured gardens or visitor centres here - this is genuine Suffolk countryside, the sort of place where you actually spot wildlife if you keep still and patient.

The reserve itself centres on woodland and open areas that shift through the seasons. Spring brings a rush of birds nesting; autumn turns everything golden and damp underfoot. There's a network of paths, some easier than others, so you can tailor your visit to energy levels. Birdwatchers will find it worthwhile - bring binoculars and a field guide. Families with young kids should manage an hour or so, though restless toddlers might find it a bit too quiet. The real appeal is for anyone after a proper walk without fighting crowds.

For a camp-based holiday in the area, Landseer sits well within reach of several sites. Priory Park is barely a mile away, making it ideal for an evening stroll. Bucklesham Park and Newbourne Woodland Campsite are both under five miles, so morning walks are entirely feasible. It's not a destination in itself, but as part of a Suffolk week exploring the quieter side of East Anglia - mixing coastal towns with inland reserves - it slots in nicely.
