Lambrigg Fell

The walk up Lambrigg Fell from Kendal takes about forty minutes if you're reasonably fit, which makes it ideal for an afternoon sortie rather than a full-day commitment. The fell itself is modest by Lake District standards - 358 metres - but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a doddle. The final push is properly steep, and the ground underfoot can be boggy in places, especially after rain.

Once you're up there, the views are genuinely good. You get a solid panorama across the valley towards the Langdale Pikes and back down towards Kendal itself, which helps you understand why this small town sits where it does. It's the sort of walk that rewards the effort without demanding you be a hardened fell walker.

Families with older children will manage it fine; younger kids might struggle with the gradient. History types won't find much up here beyond the landscape itself, but walkers after a quick hit of fresh air and altitude will be pleased. There's no visitor infrastructure whatsoever - bring a packed lunch and water.

If you're staying at Two Acre Glamping Pods or The Ashes Caravan Park, both within a couple of miles of Kendal town centre, Lambrigg Fell makes an easy morning walk before exploring Kendal's market streets or heading into the main Lakes. Go early to avoid the afternoon crowds, and time it for decent weather - in mist, you'll see nothing but cloud.
