Ladderedge Country Park

Ladderedge Country Park sits on terrain that's clearly been shaped by something significant, and walkers in the area tend to make it part of a longer route rather than treating it as a standalone destination.

You're looking at moorland walking on a relatively modest scale. The paths are straightforward enough, and on a clear day you can see across to the wider Peak District landscape. It's the sort of place where fell walkers warming up before heading further north actually pause and take it in, rather than somewhere that demands a special trip on its own.

Historically minded visitors will find something worth investigating in the landscape itself - the ridge has its own story - but this isn't a place with signage, visitor facilities, or the usual park infrastructure. Bring a map. The nearest caravan parks like Glencote (1.7 miles away) and Rudyard Vale (2.5 miles) make it an easy add-on to a longer Staffordshire touring trip.

It works best combined with exploring Leek itself and the network of moorland walks in the area. If you're camped locally and want a morning walk before heading elsewhere, it's worth the effort. Solo walkers and serious hikers get more from this than families with young children. Allow 1-2 hours depending on which paths you take.
