Kinnettles Kirk

The kirk sits alone on the Aberdeenshire countryside near Forfar, a small whitewashed church that's been there since 1738. It's the sort of place you find by accident or because you've done your homework - not signposted heavily, but genuinely worth a quiet detour if you're staying nearby.

Inside it's beautifully spare. Wooden pews, high windows, the kind of light that makes you want to sit still for twenty minutes. The graveyard around it tells proper local history if you fancy reading the stones. There's no fancy restoration nonsense here - just a working parish church that looks exactly as it should.

Walkers will appreciate the location. It's not in the middle of nowhere, but it feels like it. The surrounding countryside is gentle rather than dramatic - rolling fields, the Sidlaws visible in the distance. Fine if you're combining it with a longer walk, less of a destination on its own.

Nobody needs to know your plan in advance. Assume free admission and arrive anytime during daylight - it's that kind of place. The nearest town is Forfar for supplies, and if you're staying at Greenhillock Glamping just four miles south, it's a lovely morning ramble to add to your trip. Don't expect an hour here. Twenty minutes, a cup of tea back at your accommodation, and you've had something genuinely peaceful.
