What you get instead is a genuine archaeological site where you can actually see the footprint of medieval life: stone walls, foundations, the ghost of an economy that fed monks and supported an entire operation.

Walking the site, you piece together how it functioned - where buildings stood, how the land was worked, what mattered to the people who lived here centuries ago. For history types and walkers exploring the Dales, it's genuinely absorbing. Families with young children might find twenty minutes enough; there's limited interpretation and not much in the way of dramatic ruins to fire the imagination.

The real value lies in context. Stay at Eastfield Glamping Farm just down the road and you've got easy access to this site alongside proper walks through the wider Wensleydale landscape. It's free to visit and accessible year-round, though autumn and spring light works best for photography and the mud is usually manageable. Allow an hour if you're thorough, less if you're just passing through. Not essential, but well worth the detour if you're already exploring the valleys.
