Jubilee Park

The walk down to Jubilee Park from Tenby takes about fifteen minutes and delivers you straight into proper coastal Wales - salt spray, gorse, and the kind of light that makes you squint at the Bristol Channel. It's a modest nature reserve that punches above its weight, with a maze of paths threading through coastal grassland and scrubland that somehow feels wilder than you'd expect this close to town.

The reserve is genuinely free and open year-round, which means you can plot visits around the weather rather than opening hours. Walkers will find a solid two-hour circuit if you're in no rush, though families with younger legs can knock it down to an hour and still see the best bits - the high points give you views across to Caldey Island, and on clear days the vistas stretch for miles. Birdwatchers should come equipped with binoculars; it's a decent spot for migrants and overwintering species depending on the season.

What makes it work is the absence of the usual seaside park faff. No arcades, no ice cream van, just you and the coastline. The paths are well-maintained but not manicured to death. If you're based at Saltern Holiday Park just down the road - practically on your doorstep, really - this is an obvious first stop. Even from Haven Kiln Park or the camping spots slightly further out around Saundersfoot, it's an easy pull in for a morning before hitting the beaches proper.

Worth doing? Absolutely. Don't expect dramatic views or rare species to make your holiday, but for a genuine breath of coastal air without the crowds, it delivers.
