Jonno’s Field

Out on the North Yorkshire coast near Scarborough, Jonno's Field is one of those local landmarks that doesn't shout about itself. A proper bit of open ground with real character, it's the sort of place where locals bring their dogs and families spread out with a picnic without worrying about the crowds.

The field itself offers decent views across the surrounding countryside, and on a clear day you can see why people make the effort to walk out here. It's straightforward walking terrain - nothing dramatic, nothing that'll leave your calves screaming - which makes it accessible for families with younger kids or anyone who wants a gentle ramble rather than a proper hike.

There's not a visitor centre or formal attractions here; this is about the walk and the space itself. History buffs might find it interesting depending on what the field's actual story is locally, but honestly it works best as a break-from-the-caravan spot. If you're camping at Scarborough Camping and Caravanning Club or the five-star Prospect House Farm Glamping just down the road, it's worth knowing about as an afternoon outing. Gets you off-site without eating into proper holiday time.

Free, naturally. Allow an hour or so if you're taking it slow. Go when the weather's decent - there's no shelter to speak of, so a drizzly afternoon won't do you any favours. Works well combined with coastal walks around Scarborough proper if you want to string a day together.
