Jack's Hill

Jack's Hill isn't going to take your breath away - it's Hertfordshire, after all - but it's a decent little walk if you're staying at Lee Valley Campsite or one of the other parks round Sewardstone. The hill itself sits east of Waltham Cross and offers proper views across the Lee Valley on a clear day, which admittedly aren't guaranteed in this part of the world.

It's the sort of spot that works well for families who want a gentle ramble without committing to anything too ambitious. The walk takes maybe an hour there and back depending on your pace, and the paths are straightforward enough that even younger kids can manage it. Older children might find it a bit tame, but as a break from campsite life it does the job.

The real appeal here is its proximity to the Lee Valley parks - you're looking at a 15-minute walk from Lee Valley Campsite at Sewardstone. If you're based at Theobalds Park or Edmonton further south, it's still within striking distance for an afternoon outing. Worth doing when the weather's reasonable, though I wouldn't plan a day around it. Go when you've got a couple of spare hours and feel like stretching your legs. There's nothing to pay and no fixed opening hours - you just turn up and walk. Honestly, it's the sort of place that feels more rewarding in winter when you've got decent visibility and fewer midges.
