Ismore Coppice

You'll find Ismore Coppice a proper working woodland just outside Shrewsbury, not some manicured nature reserve but a genuine slice of Shropshire forest where local management actually happens. It's the sort of place where you can wander between mature trees and coppiced growth without the fuss of marked trails or visitor centres. The woodland feels lived-in, used - you'll spot signs of traditional forestry work alongside natural regeneration. Families with school-age kids will get a good hour or two out of it, though younger children might find it a bit samey if they're after dramatic views or obvious attractions. Walkers and woodland enthusiasts will appreciate the understated appeal. There's no entrance fee that we can find, and no formal opening hours either, which means you can slip in early morning or late afternoon without crowds. The main draw is simply walking through proper English woodland doing what it's meant to do - growing and being managed for timber and wildlife rather than tourism. It works particularly well as a break between the holiday parks dotted round Shrewsbury (Love2Stay is barely two miles away, Stoney Acres about six). You won't need more than an hour unless you're a serious forager or photographer, but it's the kind of green space that reminds you why a Shropshire camping holiday makes sense in the first place. Bring proper footwear - it can be muddy after rain.
