Croud Meadow

Croud Meadow is Shrewsbury's main sports ground, a proper working facility rather than a tourist attraction in the traditional sense. You'll find cricket pitches, football fields, and all the kit that comes with a town's sporting backbone - it's where locals come to play, not somewhere you'd necessarily plan a day around unless you're catching a match or have a kid in a tournament.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Love2Stay, Oxon Hall, or Condover Park are all within a few miles - and the weather's decent, it's worth knowing about if you've got young ones who fancy kicking a ball about or watching some local cricket. Shrewsbury itself is just a short drive away and has far more to occupy a family - the town centre, the castle, the riverside walks are all genuinely worth your time.

The meadow does host weekend matches during the season, and there's something rather lovely about catching grassroots sport on a Saturday afternoon if that's your thing. But realistically, you wouldn't travel to Shropshire specifically for Croud Meadow. It's more of a "while you're in the area" sort of place - useful to know about if you're based at one of the surrounding holiday parks and need somewhere local for a kickabout or want to catch some community sport. Best visited during the playing season when there's actually something happening, rather than turning up on a random Tuesday to stare at empty pitches.
