Newport's art scene isn't exactly London-sized, but the Isle of Wight Art Club punches above its weight for a small-town gallery. You'll find local painters, sculptors and the occasional visiting exhibition - the kind of place where the artists actually know each other and sometimes pop in while you're browsing. It's intimate rather than grand, which means you won't spend hours here, but that's rather the point.

Check ahead on opening times though - these smaller galleries keep irregular hours. Free entry, almost certainly, but don't bank on it without confirming. Come for the walk around Newport rather than expecting the gallery alone to fill an afternoon.
