Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail

The walking trail around Ingleborough Estate is one of those Yorkshire discoveries that justifies a morning detour if you're camping near Settle. You're not climbing the fell itself here - you're exploring the lower slopes and woodland that cloaks the estate, which makes it far more accessible than tackling the full peak.

What you actually get is a proper woodland ramble with views opening up between the trees. The path winds through mixed forest, crosses streams, and brings you out to vistas across Ribblesdale. It's the sort of walk where you spot stone walls, spot the landscape changing beneath your feet, and feel like you've earned a rest without having hammered your legs for three hours. Most people manage it in under two hours at an easy pace, though you can extend it if you fancy more climbing.

This works brilliantly for families who want a decent walk without the grief of steep ascents. Older kids who can manage muddy terrain and a few climbs will get on fine. History types should note the estate itself has Georgian bones - worth a look if access is available on the day you visit.

The trail sits perfectly between Orcaber Farm and The Dalesbridge if you're based at either - both within spitting distance of Settle. Free to access as far as I can tell, and there's no restriction on when you can walk it. Go in dry weather though. After rain this becomes proper bog in places, and the forest floor gets slick.
