Hospital Lane Recreational Park

A modest green space just outside Market Drayton that punches above its weight for a quick woodland wander. Hospital Lane Recreational Park is the sort of place locals know and visitors often miss - which is a shame, because it's a proper little respite if you're touring the Shropshire countryside.

The park centres on a small nature reserve with woodland trails that take maybe thirty to forty minutes to walk properly, though you can dash round in half that if you're time-pressed. The paths are well-maintained and reasonably flat, making it accessible for families with younger kids and anyone not looking for a proper hike. Birdwatchers should bring binoculars - you'll spot more than you'd expect in such a compact space, and the reserve is managed specifically to encourage wildlife.

It's free to access, and there's no faffing about with car parks or entrance fees. Just turn up and get on with it. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when the woodland is quieter and you've got a decent chance of seeing something interesting.
