It's the sort of place that works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Hedgerow or Deerstone and fancy a proper walk without spending half the day on it. Families with older kids will manage it fine, and the gradient never gets properly vicious. Walkers doing the longer routes through the Dales often swing by as part of a bigger loop rather than making it the main event.

The name throws people - no actual hospital up there, just old moorland and a decent vantage point. You're looking at maybe two hours for the round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Spring and early summer are when this area really sings, though frankly any day without proper rain is fair game.

If you're based around Skipton for a park holiday, this works as a morning jaunt before heading to somewhere with a bit more drama - Malham Cove or the higher peaks aren't far. It's not the most thrilling summit in Lancashire, but it's honest work and the views justify the effort. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your whole trip around it.
