Horseman's Crag

Two massive sandstone outcrops thrust up from the Surrey Hills woodland like ancient sentinels, creating one of the area's most dramatic natural landmarks. Horseman's Crag rewards the scramble through dense beech and oak forest with views that stretch across the Mole Valley towards Dorking and beyond.

Climbers love the challenge of the weathered rock faces, while families can explore the gentler woodland paths that wind around the base. The formations themselves are properly impressive - you'll feel quite small standing beneath these towering chunks of Greensand that have been slowly carved by centuries of wind and weather.

Getting here requires a decent walk through sometimes muddy terrain, so come prepared with proper boots. The paths can be tricky to follow in places, making it feel delightfully remote despite being just a short drive from Westcott. Allow at least two hours for the round trip if you want to properly explore.
