Hornsea Town Council

The Town Council building itself isn't why you'd make the trip to Hornsea, but it's a decent landmark to orientate yourself when you're exploring this seaside town south of Driffield. It's a functional civic structure - the sort of place where locals pop in to sort council tax or planning queries - and honestly, unless you've got business with the council, you won't spend much time here.

What makes Hornsea worth a stop is the broader resort experience around it. The seafront has proper charm if you're after a low-key East Coast break: a promenade, beach huts, an amusement arcade that feels authentically dated rather than ironically so. The town has a working fishing fleet and a couple of decent fish and chip shops that aren't charging London prices.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Cliff Top is closest at just over two miles away, or Sea View Country Park if you fancy a bit more space - the town centre is an easy drive or walk from the seafront. WoodLake and Skirlington Leisure Park give you more options further out if those fill up.

Honestly, the council building won't feature in your holiday snaps. But Hornsea itself is the sort of unpretentious place that works well for families wanting a traditional British seaside break without the crowds you'd get at Scarborough. Come for the beach and the fish suppers. The council office is just somewhere you'll pass on the high street.
