About Hopes Nose Fishing

The walk out to Hopes Nose is a proper coastal scramble - nothing technical, but you'll want decent shoes and a bit of puff. It's a rocky headland jutting into Tor Bay, and once you're out there the views back towards Torquay and up the Devon coast are absolutely worth the effort. You're standing on red sandstone cliffs looking down at fishing boats and across to Berry Head. On a clear day you can see for miles. The nose itself is only about 45 minutes' walk from the car park near Livermead, so it's the kind of thing you can knock off before lunch without eating your whole morning. Fair warning: it gets properly blustery out there, and the path is narrow in places with the sea dropping away below you - brilliant if you like that sort of thing, a bit much if you're nervous of heights. Wildlife spotters will have a field day with seabirds and the occasional seal. It's free, obviously, since it's just a headland you walk to. Most people allow an hour and a half return trip including time to stand about and take photos. The real plus is how easy it slots into a broader beach holiday - you're barely 4 miles from Parkdean Resorts Torquay and a string of family parks, so you can do this as a morning walk, grab fish and chips in town, then head back to camp for the afternoon.
