Hope Bowdler Hill

Standing at 1,506 feet above sea level, this modest hill offers surprisingly expansive views across Shropshire's rolling countryside without the crowds that plague its more famous neighbours. The walk to the summit from Willstone takes about 45 minutes through sheep-grazed pastures and patches of gorse - nothing too taxing, though the final push gets your heart rate up properly.

What strikes you most isn't the height but the isolation. On a clear day you can see across to the Welsh hills, with the Long Mynd's dark ridge dominating the western horizon. It's the sort of place where you might not see another soul for hours, which is either blissful or slightly unnerving depending on your mood.

Families with older children who can manage a decent walk will find it rewarding, though toddlers might struggle with the steeper sections. The lack of defined paths means it's not brilliant for pushchairs either. Walkers and anyone seeking genuine peace will get the most from it.
