Hoof Stones Height

The walk up Hoof Stones Height rewards you with one of those views that makes the leg burn worthwhile. It's a proper moorland peak in the Pennines, just outside Glamping, rising to 1,680 feet and offering a genuine sense of elevation without needing crampons or a guide.

The fell itself is straightforward - grassy, windswept, the kind of place where you can actually see what you're walking towards rather than plodding through forest the whole way. On a clear day you'll take in Pendle Hill to the south and sprawl across Lancashire and into Yorkshire. The path is well-worn, not technical, making it accessible for anyone with reasonable legs and an hour or so to spare from base camp.

This isn't a destination attraction where you'll spend half the day. It's what you do when you're camping or glamping nearby - Rossendale Holiday Cottages and the spots at Trawden Forest and Old Chamber are all within shouting distance. The walk works brilliantly as a pre-breakfast jaunt or a late afternoon push when the light starts doing interesting things across the moor.

Walkers will get the most from it. Families with young children might find the exposed terrain a bit exposed on windy days, and there's not a café or facilities at the top, so go prepared. The moorland can feel bleak if the weather turns, but that's rather the point of coming up here.

Free, naturally. Allow 45 minutes to an hour return depending on fitness, longer if you want to linger and actually look at the view instead of just breathing heavily at it.
