Combe Hill

The walk up Combe Hill rewards you with proper Pennine views across Lancashire's moorland - nothing fancy, just honest landscape that stretches for miles when the weather's on your side. It's a straightforward fell walk from near Glamping, climbing to roughly 430 metres with decent paths that won't have you scrambling. Most people manage it in under two hours there and back, though you'll want to allow longer if you're stopping to take it all in.

This is walker country, full stop. If your crew enjoys being outdoors and doesn't mind a steady gradient, they'll get something from it. Families with young kids might find the climb a bit relentless; it's not technical, but it's consistent and there's bugger all shelter if the weather turns. The summit itself is modest - no trig point drama, just moorland and views - so don't expect a dramatic payoff moment.

Being only a couple of miles from Trawden Forest Glamping and Shay Gate Farm Campsite, it slots nicely into a walking holiday in the area. Pair it with Bronte Country Park over in Yorkshire if you're doing a proper Pennine loop. Go on a clear day, ideally midweek when the paths are quieter. Free to walk, as with most moorland in these parts - just park sensibly and respect the land.
