Hoober Hill

The walk up Hoober Hill rewards you with proper views across the Pennines, especially on clearer days when you can see right across to the moors beyond Skipton. It's not a massive peak - more of a steady climb than a proper scramble - but the moorland setting makes it feel wilder than the height suggests.

What you're actually doing here is following footpaths through open moorland, with the trig point at the top being the main focal point. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip if you're coming from Skipton. It's the sort of walk that works well for families who've got confident walkers in the group, though younger kids might find the exposed moorland a bit relentless on windy days.

Timing matters. Early morning or late afternoon light across the moors is worth the extra effort, and you'll avoid the crowds that occasionally gather here during peak season. The ground can get boggy after rain, so proper boots aren't optional.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping or camping spots - Deerstone Glamping, Draughton Heights Campsite, or Thornton Hall Country Park are all within five miles - this works as a solid half-day activity. Pair it with walking trails through the Yorkshire Dales proper and you've got a proper moorland break. It's not the flashiest peak in Lancashire, but if you like quiet hilltop walking without the tourist infrastructure, it's worth the detour.
