Holloway Rocks

The rocks themselves aren't much to write home about - a modest outcrop that pokes up from the Powys countryside a short walk from Presteigne. What makes the trek worthwhile is the walk itself and what opens up once you get there. The climb is straightforward, nothing that'll knacker you out, and the views across Mid Wales are genuinely good on a clear day. You're looking at rolling farmland stretching toward the Radnor Forest, which beats staring at a field from the car park.

Walkers get the most from this one. It's not a dramatic peak - don't expect scrambling or technical footing - but it's an honest local walk that rewards you with proper views. Families with younger kids will manage it fine if they're used to a bit of hiking; it's a solid leg-stretcher without being exhausting. History buffs might find the geology interesting, though there's not much interpretation on site.

The real appeal is fitting it into a broader walking day. You're close enough to Black Hall Lodges, Shropshire Luxury Glamping, and Rockbridge Park that it works as a morning sortie before settling into your accommodation. Allow an hour and a half there and back, longer if you want to sit and soak in the views. Weather matters - grey skies flatten the landscape entirely, so pick a decent day. Free to visit, of course; it's just a hill. Not essential to your holiday, but if you're based nearby and fancy a proper walk, it'll do the job.
