Hollingbury Park Golf Course

Hollingbury sits on the Sussex Downs just north of Brighton, a municipal course that's been around since 1906. It's the sort of place where locals actually play - which tells you something. The layout uses the natural contours of the hillside, so you're not trudging across flat ground for eighteen holes. Views across the Weald are decent enough, though you're here for the golf rather than the scenery.

If you're a golfer staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Southdown Way or Blackberry Wood are both within five miles - this is worth a round. The course doesn't require membership and plays fairly, though it can get busy on weekends. Expect to spend three to four hours on the course depending on your pace. It's public-owned, which means green fees are reasonable compared to private clubs.

For holidaymakers with non-golfing partners, this isn't the draw. Brighton itself is fifteen minutes south with plenty else on offer. The Downs provide good walking if you want to explore the area properly. Golfers will find it a solid day out - nothing fancy, but honest golf at a fair price. Not a destination course, but absolutely worth fitting in if you play and are camping in the region.
