Hollin Tree Hill

The walk up Hollin Tree Hill rewards you with proper views across the Yorkshire countryside, and it's a genuine leg-stretcher from Harrogate without being a full day's commitment. The summit itself isn't dramatic - no rocky outcrop or trig point - but on a clear day you get that satisfying feeling of being somewhere higher than the rest, looking back towards town and out across the Pennine foothills.

It's the kind of place that works best if you're already staying in the area rather than making a special trip. Families with kids aged eight upwards will manage the climb without too much complaining, though younger ones might find it a bit of a slog. Walkers after a proper hike will be done in an hour, which is either brilliant if you've got a packed lunch and time to kill, or slightly underwhelming if you were expecting something more substantial.

The main draw is that it connects nicely to the wider walking around Harrogate - you're not isolated up there. Breezily positioned between Breaks Fold Farm Glamping and Windmill Retreats, both within a few miles, it works as a morning sortie if you're camping locally. Spring and early summer are best before the vegetation gets too overgrown and the paths muddy up in autumn.

Free to access, obviously. Allow 90 minutes including a breather at the top. It's worth doing if you're based nearby, but don't drive over specially from elsewhere in Yorkshire just for this one.
