High Wood

The woodland here near Bridlington spreads across enough acres to properly lose an afternoon in, which is exactly what you want from a forest walk. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think - no theme park nonsense, just trees, paths, and the occasional rustling that might be a deer or might just be the wind playing tricks.

For families with restless kids, High Wood works well enough. There's enough ground to let them burn off energy without feeling like you're herding cats through a maze. The paths are decent underfoot, though after rain you'll want proper boots rather than trainers. It's not dramatic woodland - no hidden waterfalls or dramatic ravines - but it's genuine, green, and free from the crowds you'd get at bigger attractions.

Walkers will find it a solid spot to spend an hour or two, longer if you're the type who moves at a proper pace and takes notice of things. The canopy's thick enough to keep you cool in summer, which counts for something on the Yorkshire coast.

If you're staying at Flamborough Glamping or Haven Thornwick Bay, this sits nicely as a morning or late-afternoon excursion. It's close enough not to eat into beach time, but far enough that you feel like you've actually been somewhere. Free admission, no faffing about with opening hours - just turn up and walk.
