High Wood and Meadow

The woodland around High Wood and Meadow near Daventry offers proper walking territory without the tourist crush you'd find elsewhere in the region. It's essentially a mixed patch of trees and open grassland where locals come to stretch their legs, and that's rather the point - no visitor centre, no admission fee, no faffing about. Just a decent walk through countryside that's genuinely pleasant if unremarkable.

What you get here is flexibility. The paths are manageable enough for families with young kids, though the ground can be boggy after rain and wellies aren't optional. Walkers after a proper route can string together an hour or two without much effort. The views aren't spectacular - this is Northamptonshire, after all - but there's something satisfying about woodland that feels used rather than manicured.

Time-wise, allow ninety minutes if you're taking it easy, or just thirty minutes if you're after a quick leg-stretch from one of the nearby campsites. Whitefeather Campsite is barely three miles away, and Hideaway Wood Farm with its alpacas is close enough that you could combine a visit here with accommodation there. It's the sort of place that slots neatly into a park holiday without demanding you reorganise your plans.

Worth the trip on its own? Probably not. Worth knowing about if you're staying locally? Absolutely. Go when the ground's dry and you'll find it's a solid, unpretentious bit of the English Midlands.
