The stubby woodland just outside Daventry is exactly what you want if you're after a proper walk without the fuss. Everdon Stubbs sits on the edge of the town with mature trees, open grassland, and enough space to actually stretch your legs without bumping into crowds. It's free to access and there's no time limit - you can spend twenty minutes pottering about or make it a two-hour ramble if the mood takes you.

The paths are straightforward and mostly level, which suits families with younger kids or anyone who'd rather not knackered themselves out completely. You'll spot native birds and wildlife depending on the season; spring and early summer bring the most activity. It's the kind of place where you notice things - a flash of movement in the undergrowth, the way the light filters through the canopy.

This works well if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Hideaway Wood Farm or Magic Mushroom Cabin. Both are within spitting distance and rated brilliantly, so you could do a morning walk here, head back for lunch, and still have energy for exploring the market town itself. Whitehall Farm and Whitefeather Campsite are other local options if you're bringing the family or caravan.

The reserve isn't flashy or Instagram-ready, and that's its strength. Go on a weekday morning when it's genuinely peaceful. Don't expect dramatic views or rare birds - expect a nice bit of Northamptonshire woodland that does exactly what it says on the tin.
