The appeal is low-key: you're essentially looking at pools of water and rough grassland where herons, lapwings, and the occasional kingfisher turn up. Birdwatchers make the pilgrimage. Kids under eight will lose interest fast unless they're genuinely mad about spotting birds.

If you're based at Bishops Green Farm Campsite barely half a mile away, it's worth a quick recce on a quiet morning. For a more typical holiday park experience, Cherry Bird Country Park two miles north offers better facilities. The gravel pit works best as an add-on for keen naturalists rather than a destination in itself. Honest assessment: it's more for twitchers than tourists.
