Hazelberry Hill

This is a solid choice for walkers who fancy something low-key without the scramble or exposure of proper mountains. Families with older kids will manage it fine - younger children might find it a bit of a slog unless they're keen walkers already. The nearest town is Lockerbie, which gives you a sense of scale for the area, and if you're based at one of the local caravan parks - Cressfield, Hoddom Castle, or Halleaths are all within easy striking distance - it makes a decent morning or afternoon outing.

There's nothing fancy here. No visitor centre, no facilities on the hill itself, so bring what you need. Go on a day when the weather's actually decent because the exposed moorland doesn't hide much, and a low cloud ceiling will kill the views entirely. It's free, obviously, and you can be up and down in two hours if that's all the time you've got. Worth the detour if you're already in the area and the forecast looks promising.
