Hawkes Point

The walk out to Hawkes Point from Carbis Bay takes you along a proper coastal path with the Atlantic properly spread out beneath you. It's not a long haul - maybe twenty minutes from the car park if you're not dawdling - but the views make it worth every step. The point itself is a rocky outcrop that juts into the sea, and on a clear day you can see right along the coast towards St Ives. Photographers love it here. The light does something special in the late afternoon, catching the granite and turning the water all shades of blue and grey.

Walkers will get the most from this one, especially if you're after a break from the holiday park routine. It's the kind of spot that works equally well as a quick morning stroll or an afternoon ramble when the kids have had enough of the caravan. Bring proper shoes - the rocks are slippery when wet, and the wind can be a bit fierce when it decides to show up. The path is well-maintained and there's rarely a queue, which is refreshing compared to some of the busier coastal spots round here.

If you're based at Haven Riviere Sands or Polmanter, both within a couple of miles, this makes an easy addition to your day. It connects well with walks towards Upton Towans if you want to string a longer route together. Free to visit, naturally, and no time limit - stay as long as the weather allows.
