Rolling farmland stretches endlessly below from this modest hill summit just outside Welshpool. At 348 metres, Hafod Seller won't trouble any serious peak baggers, but the panoramic views across the Severn Valley make the gentle climb well worth the effort. You'll spot the distinctive outline of the Long Mountain to the east and the higher peaks of central Wales rising in the distance.

Families with older children will enjoy the straightforward walk to the top - there's no technical scrambling involved, just a steady uphill slog through sheep pasture and patches of woodland. The OS map shows a clear path, though it can get muddy after rain. Allow about two hours return from the nearest parking spot.

What makes this hill special is the complete lack of crowds. Even on a sunny weekend, you're likely to have the summit to yourself. It's that rare thing - a proper viewpoint without the tourist coaches and ice cream vans.
