Hafod-Boeth

The walk up Hafod-Boeth from Talsarnau is one of those proper Welsh hill climbs that rewards you with views across Cardigan Bay and inland toward Snowdonia. It's not a massive peak - nothing that'll wreck your legs - but the climb is steep enough to earn those vistas. You get moorland underfoot, scrubby vegetation, and on a clear day the panorama stretches far enough to make the huffing worth it.

This is walkers' territory. Families with younger children might find the gradient a bit much, and it's the sort of place you do for the physical challenge and the view rather than for facilities or a leisurely stroll. There's no visitor centre, car park, or café - you're going under your own steam. Allow a couple of hours there and back depending on fitness.

What makes it appealing is the relative quiet. You won't fight crowds here like you do on Snowdon. It's the real thing - just you, the Welsh hills, and decent lung-testing ascent. The nearby campsite options at Barcdy Caravan & Camping Park, just 2.9 miles away, make it an easy base if you're doing a weekend of peak-bagging in Gwynedd. From there you could tackle this one, potter about Talsarnau, and still have time for longer day walks across the region. Worth doing if you're in the area and the weather's cooperative.
