Guzzle Down

The walk up to Guzzle Down from Brixham takes you through proper Devon countryside - the sort of place where you'll spot more cows than cars. It's a modest peak by most standards, but the views across Tor Bay make the climb worthwhile. On a clear day you can see right across to Paignton and beyond, which beats staring at the seafront from ground level.

There's nothing fancy waiting for you at the top - no cafe, no visitor centre, just open space and the sea breeze. It works best for families who don't mind a short hike and walkers after genuine coastal paths rather than manicured tourist routes. Kids will get a kick out of reaching the summit, though it's not exactly a full day's outing unless you combine it with other walks in the area.

The surrounding caravan parks - South Bay is closest at 1.4 miles - make decent bases for exploring this stretch of the coast. Waterside and Hoburne Devon Bay are within easy reach if you're staying over. Access appears to be free, though I'd check locally in Brixham before heading out, as routes can shift with coastal maintenance.

If you're already in the area for a seaside holiday, the detour works. Don't go out of your way specially, but if you're staying at one of the nearby parks and fancy a walk with actual scenery, Guzzle Down delivers. The trek takes roughly 30 minutes from town, depending on your pace.
