A proper woodland walk through Green Walk Plantation takes you away from the flat Lincolnshire monotony and into something altogether more sheltered. Towering conifers and established hardwoods create a network of paths that wind through the forest - it's the sort of place where the light filters green through the canopy and you can actually hear yourself think.

The plantation sits close enough to Newark that you could make it part of a wider afternoon, though honestly it's worth the detour in its own right if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots. Witham Grange Glamping and Lincolnshire Glamping LTD at Spire View Meadow are both within three miles or so, making this an easy escape from your accommodation if the weather turns or the kids need somewhere to burn off energy that isn't a field.

Walkers will find it decent - nothing dramatic, but the paths are straightforward and the woodland is thick enough to feel genuinely different from the surrounding countryside. You're not looking at dramatic vistas or rare flora. This is everyday forest, but that's rather the point. Allow an hour for a leisurely circuit, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type to stop and look at things.

The real strength is as a rainy-day option or a morning walk before heading into Newark. It won't change your life, but it's solid. Bring proper footwear though - the ground can be boggy after wet weather, and the Plantation doesn't strike you as the sort of place that gets religiously maintained.
