Green Haw Hill

The walk up Green Haw Hill rewards you with proper Yorkshire views across the Dales. It's a moderate hill near Skipton - nothing technically demanding, but the climb is real enough that you'll feel you've earned the summit. The landscape opens up as you gain height, rolling moorland stretching towards distant fells. The path itself is well-trodden and fairly obvious, though boggy patches appear after rain.

This works best for walkers comfortable with a couple of hours on their feet. Families with younger children might find it a bit steep for what it is, though keen little hikers will enjoy the sense of achievement. History types won't find much here - it's about the walking and the views, nothing more. On a clear day you can see right across the Dale, which is when it truly justifies the effort. Avoid midweek mornings if you want solitude; weekends bring a steady stream of ramblers.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Wood Nook is closest at just over a mile away, with Wharfedale Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite equally handy at 1.6 miles - this makes an excellent half-day outing. The Malham Glamping Pods and Coxons Farm are slightly further but still accessible for an afternoon sortie. No facilities at the summit itself, so bring water and a packed lunch. The best light for photography is late afternoon, when the sun picks out the valley contours.
