Green Bank

Green Bank is a fell walk that creeps up on you. Set just outside Kendal, it's not the dramatic high peak you might expect - rather, it's the kind of steady climb that rewards walkers with proper views across the South Lakes without requiring a technical scramble or a full day's commitment.

The ascent itself follows a well-trodden path through moorland and rough pasture. You're looking at roughly two hours up and back from the car park, depending on pace and how many times you stop to turn around and appreciate where you've come from. The summit isn't dramatic - no cairn, no trig point, just open fell with sight lines that stretch toward the Kentmere Valley and beyond. On a clear day it's genuinely worth the climb; on a grey one, less so.

This is proper territory for walkers who know what they're doing. Families with young kids might find the exposure and boggy patches testing, though older children who've done a few fells will manage fine. The ground underfoot varies - some rocky sections, some squelchy. Bring boots.

Green Bank works well as part of a broader Lake District itinerary. If you're staying at The Ashes Caravan Park or Two Acre Glamping Pods, both just a mile or so away, you can knock this out as a morning walk before heading elsewhere. It's not a destination in itself - more a proper fell walk for people who actually like fell walking, without the crowds of better-known peaks.
