Great Creigiau

The walk up Great Creigiau is proper straightforward - nothing too technical, just a steady climb from the Presteigne side that rewards you with views across the Powys valleys and beyond. On a clear day you can see for miles, which makes the effort worthwhile even though it's only 658 metres. The summit itself isn't dramatic or rocky; it's more of a rolling moorland plateau with a trig point that marks the spot.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's the kind of peak that doesn't demand scrambling or serious fitness, so families with kids who've done a few hills will manage fine. Allow a couple of hours return trip depending on your pace and how long you want to hang about at the top. Spring and early summer are best when the heather's coming through, though autumn offers that golden light that makes everything look richer.
