Gorsedd Stone Circle

The Gorsedd Stone Circle sits on a hillside just outside Swansea, a Bronze Age monument that most people barrel past without noticing. It's a proper archaeological site - a ring of standing stones that's been here for thousands of years, which does something to you when you stand among them. The circle itself is modest by some standards, but there's something about the scale and the age that makes it worth the detour from your caravan pitch.

You can walk straight up to it without a fence or gate - it's completely free and accessible whenever you fancy. Takes about twenty minutes from the nearest car park, though the path isn't signposted brilliantly, so have your phone ready. Once you're there, you'll find it's quieter than you'd expect given Swansea's just down the road. History types and anyone interested in Bronze Age Wales will get more from it than families with restless kids, truth be told.

If you're staying at Swansea Marina Tourer Park or any of the other sites clustered around the area - Blackhills Leisure and Gowerton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite are both within reach - the circle makes a solid morning walk without eating into your whole day. The views across the Swansea valley are decent too, especially on a clear morning. Don't expect queues or facilities, but do expect to have the stones largely to yourself.
