Glebe Cairn

A rough scramble up a bracken-covered hillside near Lochgilphead gets you to what remains of a Bronze Age burial cairn - basically a pile of stones that's been here for roughly 4,000 years. It's not dramatic. There's no visitor centre, no explanatory boards, just you and the wind and a sense that something genuinely ancient is right there under your feet.

Worth the trip? Only if you're properly into archaeology or you're already exploring the wider Argyll landscape. History types will find it satisfying enough - the scale becomes apparent once you're standing on it, and the views back toward Lochgilphead aren't bad. Families with young kids might find the walk underwhelming; there's no play element here, just a cairn.

The whole thing takes maybe thirty minutes from the car park, depending on fitness and how much time you spend poking about. Admission is free. It's the sort of place you do on a damp afternoon when the weather's closed in elsewhere, or when you're camping at The Pod Over By nearby and you want a proper walk that means something.

Access is straightforward from Lochgilphead - it's signposted from the main road. Go in the morning if you can; afternoons get shadowy. Bring proper shoes; the ground's boggy in places and the bracken hides rocks. It won't change your life, but if you're genuinely interested in Bronze Age Scotland, you'll be glad you went.
