Girneynick Plantation

Walking through Girneynick Plantation feels like stepping into proper woodland - the kind of quiet forest that exists just inland from the Northumberland coast, a few miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The trees form a dense canopy overhead, and the paths wind through the kind of landscape that's easy to lose an afternoon in without realising how much time has passed.

It's a working forest rather than a manicured park, which means you get the real thing - moss-covered logs, the smell of earth and needles underfoot, and the sort of peace you won't find in managed attractions.
