Gerynt

The walk up Gerynt from Caernarfon side is proper straightforward - nothing too technical, just solid hill climbing through decent moorland. You get up there and the views across the Menai Strait toward Anglesey are genuinely worth the effort, with Snowdonia spreading out behind you on a clear day.

It's not a long haul. Most people manage the summit and back in under two hours, which makes it ideal if you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Llyn Gwynant is brilliant for this, only 2.6 miles away and right in the heart of the walking country. You could knock it out in the morning and still have the afternoon free.

Walkers will find it a solid day out without breaking a sweat. Families with older kids who are past the pushchair stage will get on fine with it too. The ground can be boggy after rain, so proper boots matter. Bring a map or use your phone - the path's clear enough but it's moorland, which means plenty of space to wander off course if you're not paying attention.

Timing-wise, go early if the weather looks dodgy. Cloud rolls in fast around these hills, and you'll lose the views if you're still climbing at midday. The peak itself isn't dramatic - no café, no facilities, nothing fancy. But that's rather the point. It's the kind of walk that reminds you why you came to North Wales in the first place.
