About Gïas
The climb takes roughly an hour from the valley floor. It's steep enough to feel like you've earned something, but nothing that'll have you gasping. On a clear day you can see across to the Cambrian Mountains and back towards the industrial heartland. Overcast, it's just you and the wind.
This is primarily a walk for people who like their walks without the fanfare - ramblers, fell runners, anyone after some genuine solitude. Families can manage it if the kids are up for a proper trudge. The ground can be boggy in places, so proper boots matter more than trainers do.
Base yourself at one of the caravan parks nearby - Glangwy Farm is just four miles off, Red Kite Touring Park at five. From there Gias becomes a half-day outing. Llanidloes itself is a reasonable stop for supplies and a decent pub afterwards. The whole area around here is proper walking country, so if you're spending a week camping in Powys, this should be on the list. It won't take all day, but it will remind you why you bothered driving to Mid Wales in the first place.
