Fulsby Wood

Dense woodland paths wind through what feels like proper old Lincolnshire countryside, just a short walk from Kirkby on Bain village. Fulsby Wood doesn't make a song and dance about itself - there are no visitor centres or waymarked trails here, just acres of mixed woodland where you can lose yourself among oak, ash and birch trees.

Families will find it brilliant for letting kids run wild and build dens, though do keep an eye on little ones as paths aren't always obvious. Dog walkers absolutely love this place for the freedom it offers, and it's a cracking spot for anyone who prefers their nature walks without crowds. Bird watchers should bring binoculars - the variety of species here is impressive.

Expect to spend a good hour or two if you're exploring properly, though you could easily make an afternoon of it with a picnic. Spring brings bluebells and wild garlic, while autumn turns the canopy into something rather spectacular.

Staying at one of the nearby sites like Woodhall Spa Camping and Caravanning Club or Tattershall Lakes Country Park? This makes a lovely contrast to the more managed attractions in the area.
