About Fron Hill
It's a straightforward ascent through farmland and open moorland, nothing technical, though the final stretch does get a bit steeper and can be boggy after rain. The summit itself is modest - no café, no facilities, just open sky and the Powys landscape rolling away in all directions. On a clear day you can see proper distances.
Walkers will get the most from this one. It's too short to justify a full day out, but pair it with a morning in Presteigne itself or use it as a warm-up walk if you're based at Presteigne Holiday Park or Hush Hush Glamping nearby. Neither attraction is particularly child-focused unless your kids are already keen hikers - it's not that kind of outing.
The whole thing takes two hours round trip if you're taking your time. Go early if you can, especially in summer, to beat the afternoon cloud rolling in from the west. Free to do, obviously, and you can start from the town itself. The real appeal isn't the view - though it's decent - but the sense of actually being out in proper Mid Wales countryside. Less touristy than some peaks in the area.
