Fron Fawr

Fron Fawr is a modest hill walk that sits just outside Abergele in North Wales, offering decent views across Conwy without the crowds you'd find at more famous peaks. The summit isn't dramatic - it's more of a steady plod than a scramble - but on a clear day you get proper views of the Vale of Clwyd and the Conwy estuary beyond. It takes about an hour to reach the top from the nearest parking, depending on fitness and your appetite for wandering off the main path.

This is walkers' territory, mainly. Don't expect a café at the top or a visitor centre. You get fresh air, a bit of exercise, and the satisfaction of having bagged a peak. Families with young children might find it a bit dull - it's not technical enough to excite older kids who want a challenge, but the walk itself is manageable for most abilities.

Going free, obviously. You can visit any time, though winter can be boggy. Spring and autumn are your best bets for solid underfoot conditions and clearer skies.

If you're based at one of the holiday parks nearby - Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr or Bron-y-Wendon are closest at around five miles - it's a solid morning out before heading back for lunch. The peak works well as part of a wider walking loop around North Wales rather than a destination in itself. Worth the trip if you're staying locally and want to stretch your legs properly.
