The Warren

The Warren rises steeply above Abergele, a proper little hill that rewards the short climb with views across the North Wales coast. It's not a long walk - perhaps twenty minutes up from the car park if you're taking it steady - but the gradient means you'll feel it in your legs. From the top you get the sort of vista that makes the effort worthwhile: the curve of the bay, the Conwy estuary, and on a clear day you can trace the line of the coast towards Prestatyn.

This is walker territory, really. Families with young kids might find it a bit steep, and there's nothing at the summit itself - no café, no facilities, just the view and a patch of grass to catch your breath. History enthusiasts will appreciate the Iron Age fort that once stood here, though there's precious little to see these days beyond the earthworks if you know what you're looking at.

The beauty of The Warren is that it slots perfectly into a coastal holiday in this part of North Wales. You're close enough to Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr or Golden Gate Holiday Centre to pop up for an hour without losing your parking space, and it's the sort of thing that breaks up a rainy afternoon or gives you a proper walk when the weather cooperates. Free to access, no gates, just turn up. Allow an hour return journey if you're not rushing, and go early or late to dodge the dog walkers. Worth the detour if you're staying locally.
