What you get instead is a genuine caving experience without needing ropes or serious kit - you can walk inside, crouch through some narrow sections, and actually feel like you're adventuring rather than just following a paved path with handrails.

For families with older kids and walkers who fancy something different, this beats the tourist-trap caves hands down. You'll need a torch and sensible boots. The whole thing takes about an hour, maybe less if you're not exploring every side chamber. It's the kind of place that appeals to people who like a bit of geological interest without the crowding - geology enthusiasts will appreciate the rock formations, even if they're modest by caving standards.

Stay at Castleton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, just 2.3 miles away, and you're perfectly placed for this and the broader caving region. Laneside Caravan Park and Derbyshire Hills Campsite are also nearby if those are full. The Hope Valley location gives you access to proper Peak District walking alongside the underground stuff, which is where the real appeal lies. Go early morning to avoid whoever else fancies a trip underground that day.
