Frid Wood

You'll find Frid Wood just outside Bethersden, a proper slice of Kentish woodland that doesn't require a map app or a National Trust membership to enjoy. It's the sort of place locals walk their dogs without thinking twice about it, which tells you something - it's genuine, low-key, and free from the cafe culture that's crept into most woodland these days.

The wood itself is straightforward: mature trees, decent paths, and enough space to lose the crowds even on weekends. Depending on the season, you might spot bluebells in spring or get a decent canopy of colour come autumn. The walking is easy rather than ambitious - nothing that'll knacker you after twenty minutes, but enough to stretch your legs properly if you give it an hour.

It works well as a morning walk during a wider park stay, especially if you're based at Go Glamp just down the road. Kids will manage fine if they're the type who enjoy mud and fallen branches without needing a playground or a visitor centre. But if you're after dramatic vistas or a structured experience, this isn't your destination - it's just woods, which is rather the point.

The best thing about Frid Wood is knowing it exists. Most people driving through Kent miss it entirely. Go on a weekday if you can.
